Overview
The Champadevi Day Hike is one of the most rewarding short hikes around Kathmandu Valley. Located southwest of the city, this trail offers a perfect blend of nature, spirituality, and breathtaking mountain views — all within a single day.
The journey begins with a scenic one-hour drive from Kathmandu to Pharping, a historic village known for its religious significance, including the famous Dakshinkali Temple. From Pharping, the hike gradually ascends through pine forests and lush green hillsides toward Champadevi Hill.
The trail follows a peaceful forest ridge, making it ideal for bird watching and photography. During spring, rhododendron flowers bloom beautifully, adding vibrant colors to the landscape.
At an elevation of approximately 2,285 meters, Champadevi Hill features a small Buddhist stupa and a Hindu shrine, reflecting Nepal’s harmonious religious traditions. From the summit, hikers can enjoy sweeping views of the Himalayan range stretching from Annapurna in the west to Gaurishankar in the east. The viewpoint also offers a spectacular panorama of the entire Kathmandu Valley.
After spending time at the top, the trail descends toward Hattiban (meaning “Elephant Forest”), a peaceful area known for its natural beauty and rock-climbing sites. From Hattiban, a short drive returns you to Kathmandu.
