Detailed Itinerary

Your journey begins with a scenic drive from Kathmandu through winding mountain roads, lush hills, and river valleys. Passing Trishuli Bazaar and Dhunche—the gateway to Langtang National Park—you continue toward the border, gradually entering the Tibetan landscape. After crossing into Tibet, the road leads to Kyirong, a peaceful border town surrounded by snow-capped peaks. Overnight stay in a local lodge.

8-9 Hours

This day is dedicated to rest and altitude adjustment. Enjoy gentle walks around Kyirong village, observe daily Tibetan life, and explore Buddhist customs and traditions. The surrounding views of the northern faces of the Langtang and Ganesh Himal add to the calm and spiritual atmosphere. Overnight in Kyirong.

The drive continues across the open Tibetan Plateau, crossing high passes and vast grasslands dotted with nomadic camps. Along the way, witness yaks and sheep grazing freely. After crossing the mighty Yarlung Tsangpo (Brahmaputra) River, you arrive in Saga—a growing Tibetan town with basic yet comfortable facilities. Overnight stay in Saga.

Today’s journey takes you deeper into western Tibet, passing through remote valleys, high mountain passes, and traditional villages. Crossing the Mayum-La Pass (5,050 m), the landscape slowly opens to reveal the sacred Lake Manasarovar. Upon arrival at Chu Gompa, enjoy breathtaking views of the lake with Mount Kailash rising in the distance. Overnight near the lake.

Spend the morning at Lake Manasarovar, a place of immense spiritual importance. Pilgrims may perform rituals, prayers, or take a symbolic holy dip along the shoreline. An optional drive around the lake can be arranged. Visit Chu Gompa monastery before driving to Darchen, the main settlement for Kailash pilgrims. Overnight in Darchen.

A short drive takes you to Tarboche, the traditional starting point of the Kailash Parikrama. From here, begin the sacred walk along a wide valley trail toward Dhirapuk Monastery. Descend into the valley and continue to Zutul-Puk, named after the meditation cave of the great yogi Milarepa. Overnight in lodge or camp.
